Label each stack A,B...J(or 1-10). From stack A take 1 piece of gold, from stack B take 2, from stack C take 3 and so on. Weigh that group of 55 gold pieces. If the total weight is 55.1 grams then stack A is the fake. If it's 55.2, then it came from stack B and so on.

you place all the stacks on the scale and remove each stack one by one until the weight is a whole number with out a decimal.

buy 10 scales and use each one 1.

thats doesnt make sense...

Put all the stacks in the scale. You shd have 100.1 grams. Take out the stacks one by one til the .1 vanishes, then you got it

I woudl think you would put them all on the scale and see which one doesn't match the other's in color or the first answer...either way it's not that hard to do it only one time! OH and 2 days is a bit mucho!

2 ways:

1. Put the stacks on 1 at a time (stacking them onto of each other) and when you get a .1 on the scale, that is the fake one.

2. Put all the stacks on the the scale and remove them one at a time, and when the .1 is gone, that is the fake stack.

Sorry, I have a new answer:

Mark the stacks 1 through 10. Take a coin or coins from each stack and place them into stacks on the scale, the number of coins determined by the number of the stacks

ie 1 coin from stack 1, 2 coins from stack 2, 3 coins from stack 4, 5 coins from stack 5 ....

The stack with the fake coins is determined by taking the reading on the scale, minus 55 and you have your answer.

ie 55.5 - 55 = .5 (stack 5 is your answer)

Place all 10 stacks on the scale.
Each stack 10/gold x 1 grams = 10 grams
1 fake stack 10/gold x 1.1 grams = 11 grams
There are101 grams total on the scale.
Remove 1 stack at a time, until the weight drops by 11 grams. That is your fake stack.
