It is basically a distorted 3 x 3 grid (which has 8 lines of three) that brings in 4 extra diagonals at the cost of losing 2 vertical columns. Net gain: 2 lines of 3 and an improvement from eight such lines of three to ten such lines of three.

I heard a similar one with a farmer and peach trees
Put every ball except one in a circle, and put the last ball in the middle of the circle, but nope, now that I think of it (which I never do before I start typing lol), I have way too few rows

I could only get 8, but thats going diagnol...
