What are people afraid of?!

Question: A young lady was looking for a particular song which I had
on my computer. I offered to email it to her which I have done
for others many times. But, through this Yahoo thing I could
not find a way to attach the song in my email reply to her.
I emailed her and told her that and I said the only way I would
be able to do it would be if I had her actual email address to
send it to.

Now, believe me, I understand why she would balk at doing
that - which she did and I am ok with that. Since I just play
with my computer and don't really understand it I don't know
what she may have felt I could do to her. Maybe she was
afraid I would begin stalking her through email. And I guess
that has been done a lot. But, what else could I have done to
cause her grief. Just having somebody's email address
won't give access to that persons computer. Can anybody
enlighten me? Thanks and if that young lady sees this I am
really sorry I couldn't help you.

no it won't give you specific direct access
but spammers and email bots can send what look like legitimate emails from computers and "infect" other computers

but also if you know how to backward trace you can take an email address and find out the original IP and Domain etc. that the pc sits on, but if she's logging on to a yahoo or other "web based" email provider there's not much really to fear about that since you can only find out the yahoo etc. part of it.

but until the freaks who write bad code to destroy a PC's OS and data etc. stop doing it. There will always be some level of fear no matter how large or small the threat is.

also some email providers have storage limits like 100MB
1000MB etc. and a whole lot of spam could fill that up fairly quickly and any new emails would not be received but just lost in the cyberspace bit bucket until the spam is deleted from the in box

cheers

if you had her e-mail address, she has no way of knowing if what you aresending her is really the song, or if there is some malicious virus possibly
