I think you misread it, this has something to do with the ONE's. look on the oxford dictionary site, they have the riddle on there too.

this riddle is a trick on pronunciation and phonetic sound. it doesnt work when typed.
a possible answer is agree. because gree and gry sound the same.
if they spell out g-r-y, then you say "energy", and say, you never mentioned order.

It would appear from what I have read that the question was originally a trick one and that after being repeated so many times it has become corrupted.
Ignore the first part it is there to confuse you. The second part has become corrupted over time. I think it should be " Everyone knows WHAT is the third word and what it stands for. Everyone uses it every day and if you listen very carefully, I've given you the third word. WHAT is it."
The answer is therefore "What"
If you look at it like that you will see the sense in the riddle.
no it's just like the saying spell 'supercallafudgeulisticexpealladocius' now spell it
and then they try to spell the above word and when they're finished you go nah your wrong it's IT i said spell IT (i know i spelled it wrong i was just emphasizing my point)

this seems to be several different riddles. The third one is in the sentence "everyone knows what the third _ONE_ means..." However at the end you say "I've already given you the third word". The third word is "Going".
I've seen something like this before but you'd better check you typed it right.
