Solve-A-Mystery: Who Set-up the Robbery?!

Question: Deputy Sheriff Bob Steel arrived at the roadside hotel on the interstate thinking he was going to investigate an ordinary theft. Now he found himself receiving an art lesson from a dapper little man named Gilbert Bowles, art expert from Durham's auction house in Chicago.

"There were other antiques in the van, but it was the Audubons they were after. The market on Audubons has skyrocketed in recent years. There were two of them in a locked case inside the rear of the van, which is separated from the front seats by a barrier. Both were prints done by the master print-maker, Havell. I authenticated them myself. At auction they would have brought fifty thousand each, or more. The Shoveler Duck and the Purple Heron. Magnificent."

"What time did you pull in here?"

"Right at midnight. I was following the van in my car all the way. I blinked my lights for the driver to pull in here. We all needed a rest after driving for over twelve hours today."

hes the one who made sure they would be at the right place, right time. and he had a cel phone to call the baddys

Chuck Keene!

keene. the only one with a cell phone, carried his personal belongings with him, was gone when people randomly showed up.

C - Mel Sims. Two years to retirement would be enough of a motivation to steal something worth 50k. He was the one who suggested parking at the rear, was the last to open the van door and had the perfect opportunity to alert the robbers with the cell phone left behind by the security guy Keene. The only point of doubt would be whether the latter was into it and had deliberately left behind the cell. A few deft questioning by the sheriff would clear up the matter.

A. Mr Bowles. He drove for twelve hours, when he could have pulled into any motel along the way. He had planned to use that particular place all along. He flashed his lights as a signal to his accomplices who were already there. Mr Bowles also had a cell phone with which he called his accomplices while he was outside. And he alone was aware of the value of his cargo and that they were even in the van at the time.
