Question: okk So three guys, walk into a hotel and say," I would like to rent a room." So the person at the desk says, " Sure that'll be $30"
So each of the men give $10. The bellboy walks them to their room, but when he goes down back to the front desk, the person their says, "Opps I charged them $5 extra!" She gives $5 to the bellboy, and asks him to give it back to the three men. While walking up the bellboy wonders 'It would be hard to give $5 to three men equally, and one of the guys will be left out.' So the bellboy pockets two extra dollars, and gives one dollar back to each of the men.
Wait a second! So if the bellboy gave a dollar back to each of the men, they each paid $9 then. So $9 multiplied by 3 equals to $27 and you add the two dollars that the bellboy pocketed, but thats only $29!! WTF?!?!?!

so you have the 30 they paid, minus the 5 the front desk gave back...
30-5=25
We now have $25.
The 3 men each have a dollar now, that's $3.
Plus the 2 the bellboy kept, $2
2+3=5
plus the 25 we have=30

The total was supposed to be $25.

Pockets $2, gives them each $1, which equals $3.
Don't think about it so much, it works out.
You can't do the math that way because of PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction)
You have to do the math in that order, or else it won't work out. It's all just a math problem.

it all depends on the way this 'problem' is worded.
everyones proving why theres thirty dollars, but ill tell you why its confusing when you read it.
in the last calculation, "... $9 multiplied by 3 equals to $27...", thats true. the next part is wrong. when we count the 2 dollars that the bellboy took, we should be subtracting 2 from 27, not adding. they paid 25 dollars in the end, not 30.

You subtract the two dollars to get 25.....o man i hope this don't mean that i don't have a sense of humor
