Madam or ma'am is a title for a woman. It is derived from the French madame, the equivalent of Mrs. or Ms., and literally signifying "my lady."

It is also used as a title like, "Madam President, or Madam Chairman."

I think that you are overracting. He was complimenting you. You might be thinking of a "madam" that runs a brothel. In this sense, that is not what he meant.

When I lived in New York, a lot of people (especially) older ones will say, "Excuse me, madam..." They also say that in England a lot too and continental Europe a lot.

Actually, Judge Judy calls people "madam" all the time. But she will bark, "Listen to me, Madam!!!" LOL

no hes just a gentleman

mo hes just being cheezy lol

No, he was being a respectful gentleman.

No. That was kinda cute actually!!!! Enjoy the compliment!

You should be flattered that some slime ball gave you a compliment. It is comical that the strangest men are the ones with the bravery.

Pshh! Don't be offended by that! He just madam because you were female! That is a very great compliment.

no my librarian calls me that and im 15 xD

no its a joke

Women are always so easily offended. He is making a compliment. Just because you are called "Madame" doesn't mean anything, besides confirming you gender.

no he was just a gentlemen and he had good manners

no he is just a guy being polite.......rare isnt it?

lol no. wow if people are stopping you on the streets its not because you're ugly, that's fersure.

No, i think that he was trying to be respectful.

I think he thought you were hot, and in his own creative way he was trying to pick you up with an original pick-up line... Pretty smart if you ask me. :)

lol

He's probably French. Just take it as a very nice
compliment and leave it at that.

"Madame" has nothing to do with age. Guys in general are trying to show a deep respect with this word.

No, he was just being courteous.

Nope.
Some people are just think that is polite.

Lighten up!!!!!!!! I'm sure he wouldn't be stopping an old bag to tell her that. If you want to whine and make yourself a victim, then go ahead ... it's what everybody seems to do. Oooo, I'm offended. PEOPLE NEED TO RELAX!!!
