I am going to guess he could see shifting movements. Because he was color blind he could not differentiate between colors, so he saw in shades like camouflage. As to the important job, he probably was a spotter and/or sniper. These positions are important because if he can see his targets in movement then he can save the lives of fellow soldiers and what is more important than that. it's um..... I think it is night veion becaause if he ccouldn't ee color and others found it hard then it made it eaasy for him to see and get the job!!!
is it something to do with reading maps or satellite images?
He could see things in camoflauge. because if you're color blind you can only see the physical shape of something.
