Riddle for fun. 3 Guys went to a Hotel to rent 3 rooms...?!

Question: but when they get there the clerk says "I'm sorry I only have one room but you can share it if you like it will cost $30.00. The 3 guys decided it was good deal and each paid $10.00. The clerk later remembered there was a sale and the room should have only cost them $25.00, so he gave the bell hope 5 singles and told him to return it to the guys in the room. When the bell hop got to the door he thought, "well how do I divide the 5 dollars into 3 guys, so he decided to only give them each 1 dollar and would pocket the other 2 dollars. Now if each man paid $10.00 and they were returned $1.00, that means they only paid $9.00 each. 9 x 3 = 27, plus the $2 that the bellhop kept is $29.00.
Where is the other dollar?

The Solution
--------------------------------------...
The facts in this riddle are clear: The men were initially charged ?30. It should only have been ?25, so ?5 must be returned and accounted for.
?3 is given to the 3 friends, ?2 is kept by the porter - there you have the ?5.
The trick to this riddle is that the addition and subtraction are done at the wrong times to misdirect your thinking - and quite successfully for most.
Each of the 3 friends did indeed pay ?9, not ?10, and as far as the friends are concerned, they paid ?27 for the night.
But we know that the clerk will tell us that they were charged only ?25 and when you add the ?3 returned with the ?2 kept by the porter, you come up with ?30.

ummm da clerk kept it

They tipped the man who gave their money back.

in my pocket! muhahahaha!!!!

it went to the guy who brought up their luggage. butler tip! (pretty lousy tip if u ask me tho.) lol. :)

u tell me............this one us hard

I think that the clerk has the other dollar. E-mail me at piratescheerleader123@yahoo.com if I'm right!!!

there's no missing dollar.
wrong algebra.

If Americans were to base their mathematical system on 8's and not 10's, there wouldn't be such flaws. (My father-in law tells that one)

im confused

the dollar is there it should be $9 * 3 guys = 27 (the 25 dollars plus the 2 dollars he kept) + $3 (he gave back) = 30

the 3 men still have the "elusive" dollar. This riddle is an old one.

man, im stumped.

well for starters if the room was on sale for 25.00 dollars, then the guys should have given 8.33 cents each, but since they gave 10.00 each, times 3, they gave 30.00 dollars.

The clerk gave the bell hop 5.00 in singles to return to the 3 guys. The bell hop kept 2 singles and he returned 3 singles to the 3 guys.

I hate riddles....so i had to google it...

"This actually isn’t as much a math problem, as a logic and semantics problem. It took me a few minutes to spot the logical fallacy in this problem. I knew it was there, but it was difficult to spot nonetheless.

This is a semantic fallacy. The premise is false, which you can see when you work the equation backwards. The men DID NOT pay $9.00 each for a total of $27.00 for the room. They each essentially paid $8.333 for the room for a total of $25.00. Then add back in the tip of $2.00 they gave to the hotel owner, equaling $27.00. Then add back the refund each man got back ($1.00 per man). This brings you back to your correct beginning total of $30.00.

Wording things in misleading ways is what allows swindlers to make a living. By wording it the way they have in the problem, you actually add in the $2.00 to the owner twice, and you don’t add in the $3.00 rebate to the men at all, which leaves you short $1.00. "

Don't try this tricky stuff on me okay... i'm smart like a fox!! lol
