Go across with the hay, return. Go across with the goat, return with the hay. GO across with the horse, return. Then go across with the hay once more. SO 7 trips across the river in all.

he makes one trip he leaves the goats and horses behind and then sells the hay and comes back .. just taking a stab at it

they can eat hay, not hey

i agree with elle otherwise it is impossible at some point the hay will be left with an animal

NONE! he could just use the bridge next to the raft.

this riddle is only possible with 2 animals and 1 hay.

otherwise one trip,,,go across with the hay and sell it.

arrrg i cant do it

two trips: one to take the hay across, then he goes back, loads the goats, tethers all the horses together, and crosses the river the second time with the horses swimming behind the raft

The least number of trips is 1. He goes across with the hay and therefore the horses and goats can't eat it.

ok 1st takes hay= 1trip, then takes 7 goats 1 at a time which is 14 trips (7 trips back and forth), then he takes 5 horses 1 at a time which is 10 trips (5 trips back and forth) so my answer is ------- 25 trips

umm 13? lol

I would say he sold the hay and came back...any other way they would have ate the hay...So in that case im guessing Elle was correct, unless he decided to make no trips at all 0...he didn't have anything to tie the horses and goats up to there for he decided he would come back when he wasn't with so many animals.

the least number of trips would be 1 because he just has to take the hay across and sell it.

He takes the hay to other side, sells them and comes back to take all the goat and horse to other side, it takes 13 time return trip across the river to complete his mission.

:D
