Answers: RIDDLE

A man is convicted of some crime. The judge sentences him to death. Then the judge gave the convicted a chance to save himself.....he should tell a sentence. If the sentence is true, he will be hanged........if the sentence is false, he will be beheaded. What can the convicted say to save himself??

"I will be beheaded."

If the statement is true, the sentence is to hang him, which would make the statement false. If the statement is false, the sentence is to behead him, which would make the statement true. Either way, the statement cannot be both true and false, so he waits an eternity (or at least until his natural death) for the judge to resolve this paradox.

He could also state, "I am lying."

"I will be hanged"

"God forgive my sins"

I shall be hanged." Here was a dilemma not anticipated. For, as the poacher put it, "If you now hang me, you break the laws made by the prince, for my statement is true, and I ought to be beheaded, but if you behead me, you are also breaking the laws, for then what I said was false and I should therefore be hanged.
