James caught a lot of grief for "embellishing", mostly because he stated that he got clean without using the 12step method, AA/NA. Sounded just like a drunk- or drug- alogue heard in any meeting, but no one complains when they stretch the truth.
Truth is people get clean and sober on their own every day. Some of them happen to be AA/NA members when it happens, and they give AA/NA all the credit.
