Please help - this puzzle is driving me crazy!?!

Question: Please help - this puzzle is driving me crazy!!?
Right!.!.!.!.answer this:

Three men go into a hotel and book a room at £30!. After a while, the owner realises that he has over-charged the three men by £5, so he went to give it back to them!. On the way to their room, he realises that he can't equaly split the £5 between three men, so he keeps £2 for himself and them gives each of the men £1!. So now this means that each man has only paid £9 instead of £10, meaning the total is £27 for the room!. Now add the £2 that the owner kept fot himself, and you get £29 - WHERE HAS THE OTHER £1 GONE!?!

I've asked so many people, and nobody seems to be able to work it out!!!! Please help!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
we see this one quite a bit!.

the answer is that they didnt really get charged 9 each!. the room they paid for was actually 25, not 30!. the price was adjusted, remember!? so they actually paid 25/3, which is like 8!.33!. if they all got a dollar back, thats 9!.33 each, which together adds up to 27!.99!. round that to 28!. plus the 2 that the owner kept makes 30!.

easy, right!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

There is no missing money!. The way the question is put involves a clever miscalculation!.

Everyone agrees there was 30 ps to start with, so let's find the original 30 ps:

25 ps is in the till
The men have 3 ps
The owner has 2 ps

25 + 3 + 2 = 30

The question picks up after the men are returned 3 ps!. So, why do we need to find 30 ps any longer!? If the men have have paid out 9 ps each we only need to find 27 ps not 30 ps!. The 27 ps is distributed as follows:

25 ps is in the till
The owner has 2 ps

25 + 2 = 27

The miscalculation trick is to add the 2 ps the owner has to the 27 ps!. But, as you can see above, we have already accounted for the 2 ps the owner has because it is part of the 27 ps!. You have double counted the 2 ps the owner has in error when you add it to the 27 ps!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I've heard this loads of times
The puzzle's maths is totally mad - and completely wrong - it's just meant to fool you

Each of then pay £9 - total £27
Now the owner keeps £2 - so £25 is left
The £25 pays for the room
(you need to subtract the £2, not add it)

Or another way of looking at it:
Each of them pay £10 - total £30
Owner keeps £2 - £28 is left
£3 change - so £25 is now left
The £25 pays for the roomWww@Enter-QA@Com

is just the wording of it thats the puzzel but if u look at it this way the 3 men gives the owner £10 each now that means the owner has £30 when he goes to give back £5 it means the owner now has £25 he keeps £2 that now makes £27 and each of the lads get a £1 back that makes your £30 again hope that helps you to be able to explain itWww@Enter-QA@Com

Have you looked at the depreciation of the pound recently and your asking where the £1 has gone!. Ask that maniac Brown and his pet Darling not us!. ( Been dying to get that off my chest!.!.!.thanks for the opportunity)!.
