My 3 year old grandson asked me this question tonight,

You see, it all has to do with genetics!. Parents have two alleles, you may have heard of them!. They randomly and subconciously pass down one of the alleles to their children!. Let's say that if someone is heterozygous (they have two different alleles), was round!. Round would be dominant!. So, if both sponge parents had an allele for a round body and one for a square, they'd be round!. Let's say both sponge parents are like this!. If they both passed down their allele for having a square body, the offspring would be square because for a sponge to be square, he'd have to have both alleles for the square body!. This is a one in four shot of happening!. Get it!?
That's the real way it's possible!. But you probably shouldn't tell your grandson that!.!.!. Just tell him that Spongebob was stuck in a box when he was your grandsons age and couldn't get out, leaving an imprint on him!Www@Enter-QA@Com
