Actually it is probably a rhyme about a royal family!. I have to remember, give me a second!.

Edit:
In the Royal Court in England, they used to call people nonsensical nicknames!. It is said that Elizabeth I was called “The Cat” from the way she would fiddle with her Cabinet ministers as they would be the mice in this analogy!. The cow, moon and her “dog” could also concievably be characters in this naming game!. The dish may have been Elizabeth’s serving lady, while the spoon would be a royal taster (poison or quality, I don't know!.!.!.) I would figure that the dog would be a suckup/lap-dog!.!.!. although I can't pinpoint this one!. But when the serving lady and the royal taster eloped (dish running away with spoon) Elizabeth sent out for them to be captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London!. (perhaps being the moon!?)

Pretty cool stuff!. I have heard other explanations though!.

Edit 2:

I found this website that might better explain this theory:

Not nearly as bad as this:

"Will you walk a little faster!?" said a whiting to a snail"
di Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) [pseudonym]

"Will you walk a little faster!?" said a whiting to a snail!.
"There's a porpoise close behind us, and he's treading on my tail!.
See how eagerly the lobsters and the turtles all advance!
They are waiting on the shingle -- will you come and join the dance!?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance!?
"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be
When they take us up and throw us, with the lobsters, out to sea!"
But the snail replied "Too far, too far!" and gave a look askance --
Said he thanked the whiting kindly, but he would not join the dance!.
Would not, could not, would not, could not, would not join the dance!.
"What matters it how far we go!?" his scaly friend replied!.
"There is another shore, you know, upon the other side!.
The farther off from England the nearer is to France --
Then turn not pale, beloved snail, but come and join the dance!.
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance!?"Www@Enter-QA@Com
