IS there REALLY an answer to this classic riddle??!

Question: IS there REALLY an answer to this classic riddle!?!?
You come to a fork in the road!. One road leads to Hell, the other to Heaven!. On both sides of the road there is a person!. One is a pathological liar (everything he says is false), the other a pathalogical truth teller (everything he says is true)!. If you get to ask a single question to one of them, what would you ask to choose which road you will continue your journey on!?

*there are diff variations of this riddle, however; they all carry the same concept!.!.!.ive googled it up and down and there seems to be a couple logical answers, but is there REALLY an answer, or was it just created to get all who read it thinking constantly!? haha*Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Elyse, the only flaw in this classic riddle is usually an assumption that each of the two characters in the riddle knows the other and his lying or truth-telling tendencies!. If the two people do know each other and know the lying/truth-telling habits of the other, then there is an answer to this riddle, which has already be correctly explained:

Ask either individual the following question -

Which road would the other person say is the road to Heaven!?

Then, take the OPPOSITE road!.

Suppose the person you ask your question of is the truth-teller!. The truth-teller must then tell the truth about the liar's answer to the embedded question - Which road leads to Heaven!? The liar would answer this embedded question by pointing to the road to Hell!. The truth-teller would relay the liar's answer to the embedded question by pointing to the road to Hell!. Then, you take the opposite road!.

But, suppose the person you ask your question of is the liar!. The liar must then lie about the truth-teller's answer to the embedded question - Which road leads to Heaven!? The truth-teller would answer this embedded question by pointing to the road to Heaven!. The liar would lie about the truth-teller's answer to the embedded question by pointing to the road to Hell!. Then, you would also take the opposite road!.

Capiche!?

Here's another way to think about it!.

If one source is true to a lie, what do I ultimately have!? A lie!.

If a second source gives me a lie about the truth, what do I ultimately have!? Still a lie!.

So, it doesn't matter which source I choose, I end up with a lie!.

If either source ends up giving me a lie I know what is right by doing the opposite!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the question ill ask is "Which road is to Heaven!?" of course the liar would tell the opposite but the truth teller knows that the liar is gunna tell the oppsite direction so he gives you the same direction the liar told you!.!.!.!.therefore you the take the opposite direction of which the liar and truth teller told youWww@Enter-QA@Com

You would have to ask "Which way would your companion say is the right way!?"!. The liar would say the wrong way, because he would lie and say the truth teller would say the wrong way!. The truth teller would say the wrong way, because that is the way the liar would have said!. The other way is the right way to go!. (Sorry if it was confusing!. LoL!.)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Of course,
Tinkerbellsz & Academy Award Boy
