i too would be thinking dirt but i believe they dont mean it is actually in the bowels of the earth!.Possibly emotions or a smile!.A Smile is found only on your own face!.Yet you see others use it no one can live without smiling and everyone has used it!.the poor posses more than the rich because the slightest things that will help them make them happy!.The hi and privliged throw it away meaning they dont know what is truely valueable in life!.When a smile is rejected it would turn into a frown thats pointing down"into the bowels of the earth"Without a smile the philospers stone(the stone of life) cant be made as life needs a smile!.Thats what i think at least so the answer has to be a smile!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
