Umm!.!.!.!.I guess you could fill up the 3 gallon container dump it in the 5 gallon container then fill the 3 gallon container again and dump it in the five gallon container until its full and you have 1 gallon remaining in the three gallon container!.

Fill the 3 gallon and empty it in the 5!. Fill the 3 again and then pour till the 5 is full!. You are left with 1 gallon in the 3 gallon bottle!.
