Actually, if you argue the theory of evolution, it's the chicken- gradually, of course!. Parts of a chicken, over time, gradually grew more and more on creatures born from other animals!. Eventually, as the chicken evolved, each birth resulted in one looking more and more like our modern day chicken!.
