I'm thinking this one is very, very silly!.
He goes through a tunnel, and thinks he's gone blind!. Maybe he was blind before!. In non smoking, he would have seen darkness and committed suicide because he didn't want to be blind!. But in smoking, he saw the cigarettes in the darkness and knew he was okay!.
