'Down the Local' Joke... Could someone explain it?!

Question: 'Down the Local' Joke!.!.!. Could someone explain it!?
I just read the joke titled Down the Local!.!.!. the one with the barman who makes cheese toasties and sells them to a talking rabbit who visits the pub every Wednesday (the whole joke can be read here:
http://www!.shof!.msrcsites!.co!.uk/thelocal!.!.!.
but it's pretty darn long and I'm not sure if it's overly funny)!. Anyways, I don't know if I'm not getting the play on words, or if it's an English/Scottish thing that I'm not getting, but I just don't get the punchline!. Can anyone explain it to me!?
Thanks =)

Answers:
Melvyn the rabbit died of ' mixin' ma toasties' which was a play on words for the rabbit disease myxomatosis, which decimated 95% of the UK rabbit population in the 1950’s!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

Thanks for posting this question and the link to the story, which I enjoyed immensely, it was an era that I lived through as a teenager and remember very well!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

It was way too long!.

The best I can figure it's a reference to getting sick by mixing alcohol, but the wording doesn't make sense to me either!.

Edit; oh that makes so much more sense, I figured it was a word I'd never heard before, Mitosis didn't make any sense!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Ha ha ha, that was well worth the wait, myxomatosis, is a disease known only to rabbits, and 'mix up ma toasties' is a play on that word, which is why the poor rabbit died!.!.!.!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I looked at it but decided it's length far outweighed any humor I might find!. Sorry I can't help!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I didn't get the end either!.
Thanks, Saint!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
