Question:

Did anyone read the statement made by Oprah Winfrey in the June 4, 2007 People Magazine.?

Oprah stated " [My grandmother] was a maid and worked for white folks her whole life...She used to say I hope you get some good white folks that are kind to you. I regret that she didn't live past 1963 to see that I did grow up and get some really good white folks--working for me."--OPRAH WINFREY, receiving an honrary degree from Howard University.

This has to be THE MOST RACIST statement I have ever heard.

What do you think?

Answers:

It sounds like a joke taken out of contest but if it came out of her mouth that way then by all means it is racist. But if you watch her show you can see that she is one to highlight African Americans and who can blame her being African American herself. Not all forms of racism are bad racism. It just seems when you put things in words that people take exception to what you have done. So, I am sure other people will agree with you if they read that article the way you have written it here.
