If you mean popular music the there were publications from the early 1930's in the UK and USA.
Check out:- "MELODY MAKER" - "MUSICAL EXPRESS" and "NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS". In the later years there were others like "SOUNDS" and "KERANG" in the UK
"DOWNBEAT" and "METRONOME were in the USA.
There were classical music publications even earlier
