What magazines will publish stories?!

Question:

What magazines will publish stories?

I'm 14 years old and I wrote this children's story. I'm wondering what magazines that publish fiction stories, preferably ones for children, free and get them copyrighted so no one else tries to steal my story. And would these magazines let work from a 14 year old be published? Thanks.

Answers:

Hey, it sounds like you're really serious about writing. That's great - very impressive!

First, buy this book: Childrens Writers & Illustrators Market 2007 This book is an invaluable guide for marketing your work! See:

http://www.amazon.com/childrens-writers-...

Highlights for Children is the magazine that first comes to mind. They, like most magazine, PAY authors for their accepted submissions. Cool, huh? Why should you work for free? YOU SHOULDN'T!

If you write well, no one will care how young (or old!) you are.

The easiest and cheapest way to copyright something is to mail it to yourself and DO NOT open the envelope when it arrives. The postmark will show legal proof of the date, and thus, the time your story was written. Keep the sealed envelope in case you should ever need to prove your authorship.
