who sponsers this meduim? what inleunce would the sponswer like to have upon you?
How free are we to reject or accept the values, beliefs and meanings of the meduim?
What pressure do you experience to follow the trends, the language, the codes of conduct of the meduim?
Answers:
Personally, I don't let the media dictate my life or language. I think those most prone to do so are younger persons (school-age to college) who feel compelled to fit in with what the majority thinks, feels, says, and wears.
Of course people are free to dismiss what the media says! You have to learn to make up your own mind about things or else you're just living what somebody else says. As far as who's behind magazines, I think a real obvious choice might be the corporate sector; they know there's a captive audience reading. Look at most magazines - they're stuffed with ads! And these ads are usually geared for the audience of the magazine.
I think magazines are still an influential medium; the point is not to let a medium start doing all the thinking and living for you. You have to be yourself!
