Do editors of magazines change people's names?!

Question:

Do editors of magazines change people's names?

I'm just wondering, because this was a little while back, a few years ago. I sent in a dream i had to YM magazine(this magazine is no longer printed) and they actually had my dream in there, and when i looked at the name at the bottom of whose it was...it wasn't my name. The dream was word for word what i wrote to them. And there was no way someone else had the exact same dream about Ichiro and meeting him while on classtrip at a baseball game.

So my question is do they change names? and Why?(well in my case they did change my name)...

*not the names in the stories to protect who they are, but in like letters, embarassing moments, ect.

Answers:

In the most embarrassing moments and letters categories, they used to give the first names and the general area. There should have been no reason to change the name on that. It is possible that it was a misprint/typo. You would have needed to contact them about this, seeing that it is no longer printed, that would be useless now. Of course, if they admitted it was a misprint, you would have found it buried in small print near the back of the magazine.

Additionally, I'm sure you are aware that yes, sometimes editors/writers do make decisions to change the name of an individual to protect them for various reasons.
