Unwanted Magazine Subscriptions?!

Question:

Unwanted Magazine Subscriptions?

I have several unwanted magazine subscriptions coming to me that were given as gifts. Although the thought behind the gifts were nice and appreciated, I really have no desire to keep receiving these magazines for the next year (or at all, to be honest). Is there any way of cancelling these subscriptions without the buyer finding out? Or am I stuck getting them? Thanks! :-)

P.S. If I'm stuck getting these, any ideas on a good place to donate them to?

Answers:

You should be able to cancel the subscriptions without notice to the original purchaser. You can contact the publisher directly with your magazine mailing label handy and they should be able to help you out.

FYI, USUALLY, you can ask to transfer the credit to another of the publisher's other periodicals.

One place to find the direct contact telephone number of magazine titles is to go to http://www.getsubscriptions.com... - search for the magazine title, and if you scroll down on the product description page, under "Address Changes, Subscription Cancellations & Customer Service", you should be able to find a telephone number for the publisher directly if it is publicly available. For example on one of the pages, it says, "If you are not a GetSubscriptions.com customer then you will need to contact Popular Science directly at 800-...."

Alternatively, you can request a name/address change and give the remaining portion of the subscription to someone else that would be better use for it. One place to solicit for people interested in your magazines would be to list it on http://www.craigslist.org - they have a FREE section. Or perhaps a local library or school may benefit from your donation.
