What are the types of positions at a magazine?
I want to get into design and layout, but I don't even know the types/names of positions in the design and creative departments of magazines. Also, how can I find a list of all the magazines based in New York?

To find out the position you are looking for, check the mastheads of a few magazine and see what they call it. Look under the Art department or Production.
As far as magazines published in NY - I think that most of the Conde Nast mags are published here. So is:
New York Magazine
Time Out New York
The New Yorker
O, The Oprah Magazine
Variety
Time
The Economist
