I am in the process of becoming a publisher -- A book that helped me a ton is simply titled "How to Start a Magazine and Publish it Proftiably" by James B. Kobak. Mr. Kobak has consulted on magazines since 1946 with more than 1,000 new and old magazines so the guy knows his stuff. I went on to Amazon.com and bought it from there....$15-$20 if I remember right....the best money I ever spent for this project.
Hope that helps....don't get discouraged -- magazines aren't near as risky a business as many people make them out to be.
