The New Yorker caters to what kind of an audience? (demographic)?!

Question:

The New Yorker caters to what kind of an audience? (demographic)?

Answers:

I would say definitely educated and probably affluent. Also, generally liberal and middle-aged, although the magazine itself is fairly conservative by liberal standards (if that makes any sense). Your average New Yorker reader is someone interested in the artistic aspects of culture, whether that is prose & poetry or painting & sculpture.

I believe that the New Yorker was started in the early 1900's as a magazine meant to cater to the upper-class cultural elitists of New York. And, since New York is one of the leading cities in our country for arts & culture, the magazine's influence spread from there.

The New Yorker is the standard for a lot of newer, wannabe-hip upstart mags who want to promote modern arts & culture (just updated for a younger audience).
