What is so entertaining about "Teen" and "covergirl"?!

What is so entertaining about "Teen" and "covergirl"?
What are the equivalent for guys?
I guess my real question is, what are your thoughts on teen magazines and the expected social image that it feeds kids? Is it healthy? Does it clash with self-development? Does the responsibility lie more on the parents than school?
Answers:
Is there really such a thing as self development? There is no such thing as a true nonconformist.
People in particular ,youth, will adopt certain styles and mannerisms usually associated with a particular clique or music genre or fashion movement and eventually will blend these into a persona of their own.
My high school history teacher wisely said "Life is a larceny." we take that which we admire in others and instill it in ourselves.
When i graduated high school i dated a girl who actually modeled for "Seventeen" magazine and she was quite down to earth and quite brilliant. She was not what some people would assume a fashion model would be which brings me to my next point.
Are those who criticize such publications in themselves setting a different standard for youth by saying. Don't be like the magazine tells you or you're beautiful just as you are. Such philosophies although well meaning can place a hinderance on a teen's social growth or self expectations. Therefore these magazines can be confidence boosters but reality must set in.
Not everyone can be glamorous but everyone should try to obtain some sense of self worth in their appearance. I'm not saying you must buy your clothes from whatever designer "Teen" tells you to but you can use them for what they were intended to be. A guide book not a rule book.
The only rule is be true to yourself and what you want for yourself and respect the decisons of others to do the same.
Just be.
Now for guys there are no real fashion magazines most teen guys don't care about that but those who do usually read men's mags such as Esquire, GQ or Details.
