How come newspapers have their stories all over the paper? one story that start!

Question:

How come newspapers have their stories all over the paper? one story that starts on page 1 continues on 7etc?

WHY DON'T THEY use the pages cronologically for their stories and then put everything in consecutive page orders?

Answers:

Editors want the first few pages to give an overview of what's news on any given day, so they start most of the really important stories up front. So that there is room up front for the other important stories, the stories are continued in back pages of the same section. If all the front was a couple or three main stories, people would read just those and then put the paper aside. By continuing stories, the editors ensure that readers see stories and advertising that is dispersed throughout the paper, instead of just what's up front. (This allows each page to be of value in generating income for the paper itself and for those who pay to advertise in it.)
