if its your friends favorite magazine then most likely yes.and if not then this isn't really a friend but i think so.
If it's a magazine they'd buy for themselves, or focuses on an interest they have, sure, why not? It's like a gift that lasts for a whole year.
I wouldn't want a subscription to any magazine, even one that I favor ("The Week").
Most likely, the person wouldn't appreciate a magazine because not many people enjoy reading them, or the subject wouldn't be of interest.
Keep thinking...there has to be something better for a gift.
