I received many magazine subscription bills without subscribing??!

Question: I have gotten 4 bills in the last week including Vogue, People, Maximum PC without even subscribing or giving my information to any of them. In fact, I don't even read any of these magazines. Also, People has sent me 2 magazines. Is this a scam? What will happen to me when I don't pay these bills.

the same thing happened to me. it was a mag i agreed to a trial issue at no obligation. i recieved an invoice a few days later and have still not seen my trial issue. they call and have got a collection agency calling also. to be civil i don`t answer the phone when caller id tips me off. they eventually stopped. if it has affected my credit i am not aware of it.

you should call them

Don't read them, take them to the Post Office. Write refused on it and give it to them.

Call the number on the invoice and explain, in very firm terms, that you didn't order the mags and will not pay the bills. Then insist they take you off their mailing list.

There are some companies that publishers pay for each "lead" - a person who requests a trial subscription - this is done via "afillilate marketing" on the internet. I think there is fraud where the affiliates and/or the company is faking orders and making the publishers pay for them.

Secondarily someone you know may have done this using the subscription cards in the magazine.

Publishers have nothing to gain by "scamming" people into paying for something never ordered.

Just call or e-mail customer service and let them know you never ordered it. If you want to investigate what was done to you - then ask them to send you a copy of the order. If it was on the internet they can give you the ISP and you can have the police trace it to find out who is trying to harass you.

You are not responsible for the charges but it would be nice for you to let them know what is going on.

There are 3rd party collection agencies publishers use to collect on invoices but it has no affect on your credit rating. Only credit cards and loans have an affect on that...

Good luck to you!
