Can I turn this idea into a practical career?!

Question: I have been contemplating the idea of starting a magazine (ideally regional) in which local writers can submit short stories which will be combined into a monthly publication. I am not sure if I would produce revenue by making it a free magazine with advertisers by spots or charging consumers for the magazine. I don't think there would be a shortage in stories since there are so many writers out there trying to get discovered.

I would really, really love to see this happen. I suspect, though, that the reason why it doesn't happen more often is because it's not terribly profitable. Stephen King has always been a fan of the short story, but he has enough money to publish anthologies of his own work.

Only YOU can answer this question honestly. How much are you prepared to invest in the project ? How much time can you dedicate to it ? How much do you really believe in it ? If your answers are affirmative, I would suggest that you go ahead. Since, to me, it seems to be a good idea.
PS. What ever you do, GOOD LUCK.
