Question: well i decided to take a chance.....to send my demo to atlantic records.......i know it's crazy....since people like Justin timberlake worked with that company.....

However, most major record companies do not listen to unsolicited demos so, unless you know someone in the industry, you should concentrate on smaller labels. There are a great number of record company websites. You should visit these websites to obtain information on record company policies before submitting a demo. Generally, demos aren't returned unless you include a stamped return envelope with sufficient postage. Even if you do not need your demo to be returned, it is a good idea to enclose a stamped return envelope to receive a decision by mail.
If you type in "Record Company Directory" in your search engine you will find directories with contact information for record companies so you can visit record company websites.
There is a good A&R website called Taxi where, for a fee, you can have your demo(s) reviewed by one or more A&R Representatives for major and smaller record labels. This is probably the most cost effective way of getting your songs in front of the right people.
Record companies sometimes have scouts for new artists who perform at clubs. You will need to be able to perform live to be considered by almost all record companies. Demos alone won't do it if you can't perform live in order to promote your CDs. This is often a clause in recording contracts (i.e., you must tour).
