Which films [or documentary] give genuine insight into the process of director[s!

Question:

Which films [or documentary] give genuine insight into the process of director[s] in rehearsals with..?

..actors....and once again...not films with isolated examples, but a lengthy examination of the whole process with a variety of examples.

is the tv series project greenlight any good in this respect?

Answers:

Night for Day, a French film by Francois Truffaut, was a very good story of a director making a film. Alex in Wonderland and Fellini's 8 and 1/2 are other examples of fictional depictions of the director's art.

There have been a number of documentaries about film maikng including one on Coppola making Apocalypse Now, Wim Wenders making Fitzcarraldo and Terry Gilliam trying to make an adaptation of Man of La Mancha.

These films were about the whole process, not just the work with actors.
