Do you think that foreign films have more depth and/or a better lesson than most American films?
Answers:
I think that the proof is in the remake. Many foreign films are made into American style movies and are far and away, lesser movies. (I grant you that The Departed is an exception). Three Men and A Little Lady was insipid and dull in it's American version, but smart and crisp in it's French version. Vanishing, a terrifyingly real Dutch thriller was turned into mush in America. Foreign films are not all made with a formula in mind. That is the bad guy always has to pay, there has to be a happy ending and the American way is best. In foreign countries movies are made with an artistic bent that is not always accepted in America.
