Can i do this with the harry potter movies/books?!

Question:

Can i do this with the harry potter movies/books?

I was wondering if I could just watch all the harry potter films that are out (1-4) and then just read the rest of the books? Do the films follow the books close enough that I can read the rest of the books (5-7) without getting confused/lost?

Answers:

You really should read the books.

In some cases, the movies and the books differer from one another quite a bit because you only have about 2-3 hours for a movie, whereas the books are several hundred pages.

If you're really looking for shortcuts, the first movie does the best job of covering the first book. The others, however, are rather disjointed. It's as if someone took the book, and simply skipped to "the good parts" - all the interconnecting stuff was dropped, leaving you with a series of loosely connected scenes which summarize the books, but don't give nearly the same depth of feeling or information that the books can convey.
