Anyone know the point of the movie, "The 9th Gate?"?
The girl in the movie, who's blonde and apparently can fly, who was she in the movie and what purpose does she serve? In the end when Johnny Depp's character went back to the castle and it fades out, what was suppose to happen? Did he enter the 9th gate, found the devil, or something else? I'm so confuse about the movie. I got so frustrated with the movie because it was slow in the beginning, certain parts were irrelevent, and the blonde girl having flat dialogue and being monotone with no expression whatsover. What was it all about?
Answers:
The girl is supposed to either be Satan or an emissary of Satan, and she represents the power you gain when you abandon other people's limitations. The finale is Depp's character realizing the real secret of the 9th Gate and achieving what none of the other characters were able to.
The symbolism of all this is that people who seek after things just to attain them won't be as successful as people who really care about the quest. Depp's character found the gate because he wasn't after power, he was just passionate about uncovering the secret.
