Question:
Do you have a favorite black explotation movie from the 70s and why did you like it?
Answers:
..being a devoted horror movie fanatic, I'm inclined to say that my favorite black exploitation film (...I hate the term, 'blaxploitation') is the 1972 film, "Blacula"; it was virtually the first black exploitation horror film that exhued suxch a blatant sense of exploitation ("Blackenstein", "Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde", et. al.), from the most compelling, albeit laughable title, through the timely stereotypical dialogue ("Black Prince, I curse you with MY name!!!...You shall be...Blacula!!!") and flamboyantly exaggerated characters (the two gay dudes, at the beginning, are a riot!!!). And yet, seasoned theatrically-trained actor William Marshall manages to play the vampire role absolutely straight, despite the exploitative proceedings.
...even the advertising exhued a sensationalist sense of exploitation ("Blacula!!!...Dracula's soul brother!!!...Deadlier, even than he!!!).
...the 1973 follow-up to "Blacula", entitled "Scream, Blacula, Scream", took the laudible sense of black exploitation even further beyond the fringe.
