Do you avoid certain movies because of their genre?

I just hate sci-fi, and my bf loves it, loves it to death. Because it's "exciting and it could happen." He hates my like of drama, because "that stuff could happen in every day life." I tell him it's the way it's presented that makes it good. The only thing we really can watch together are comedies and some thrillers.

I don't watch thrillers and horror movies. I don't even understand why someone would go somewhere to get scared. It's just not fun to me. I'd rather laugh or cry, no screaming.
