How long does it take to edit a high budget movie?
If a movie was done filming in February 2007, and was told the movie will come out in 2008 when do you guys think it will come out? I mean how long will it take to edit the movie. It's the new movie "The Hottie and the Nottie" starring Paris Hilton. They wrapped the movie in Feb of this year and it's suppose to come out next year but I have no idea what month. What month do you guys think? I mean editing a movie can't take more than 1 year right?

it all depends on the movie, how much material they have to choose from, cut out etc.
after filming has finished there's still a lot to do after that, not just editing, like adding special effects, shooting additional scenes/re-shooting, audio dubbing, and doing a few weeks promotion just before the release.
because of the few weeks promotion, the release date does depend on the star's schedules i.e. when can the studio get all the cast free to do promotion. also studios don't just release the film when its finished, the release date is strategic. for example it depends on the theme of the movie, if its a "summer" movie i.e. on the beach etc, and for kids, the studio may have decided to wait until next summer holidays to release. also it is thought that certain types of movies should only be released at certain times during the year, i.e. horror movies in the autumn due to halloween etc.
one of the biggest factors which dictates when the movie will be released is when other films come out. for example, if there are big blockbusters, or other movies of the same genre of paris' movie, coming out as soon as the film has been completed, the studio will set a later release date as to avoid competition with these movies.
