Written July 20, 2007 Classic Stephen King - spoiler alert!! by needlessarcasm What I love about Stephen King is that he knows the scariest thing in the world is that sometimes there is no reason something is evil, it just IS. This is the case with 1408. John Cusak was wonderful. The beginning lets you percolate knowing something is coming without giving it to you right away. Then, when it delivers, it starts small and ends up scaring the bejeebers out of you. Toward the end, with sunlight breaking thru the walls, I expected a wrecking ball sailing thru, that the Dolphin hotel hadn't been open for years, and everything had been an elaborate hallucination, a'la The Shining. But not so, King had other things in mind. Finding him on the beach was not quite convincing to me, only b/c I have read too much King to believe something that easy. But the ending was chilling in the wife's reaction, knowing that it was not ALL in his mind. I was holding my date's hand thru it all, and I think the feeling is coming back in his fingers today! Not gory, just SCARY!

Written July 19, 2007 A taught, thought-provoking thriller in which Cusack shines -- minor spoilers below by HappyGilmore I haven't read the short story by Stephen King, on which this film is based. But I have read plenty of King, and have to imagine this is a faithful adaptation. The premise itself is rather confining -- how do you flesh out an entire movie based on one room? Despite boxing itself in like this, the story manages to keep the view engrossed throughout the film, though at times a few of the thrills and chills seem not so much to advance the story as simply to thrill and chill. The ream gem here is Cusack, who is simply fantastic. The entire film is basically Cusack, the room, and his precarious grip on reality, and Cusack manages to bring us along through the dark journey into madness. Samuel Jackson plays a very minor role that frankly could've been filled by a much less marquee name without the film losing anything. Spectacular visuals sustain the terror, without stealing the stage. Again, this film makes the most out of four walls and a star.

Written July 19, 2007 Not scary by smightygood 1408 started off a little slow for me but picked as it went on. The movie was not scary as you would think. There were a few sad moments in the movie regarding his daughter.

Written July 19, 2007 Very predictable! by Kai2143 I did not enjoy this film much as the movie was very predictable. The movie was more humorous than a horror. We need some original movies that are actually frightful!

Written July 19, 2007 Don't waste your money by angelsunrise Glad I had free tickets, thought the movie was going to be great coming from Stephen King. There was nothing scary about the movie at all, all the trailers showed what could have been scary, but when put all together was very boring and had an even worse ending. Don't waste your time or money on the movie.

Written July 19, 2007 Just my opinion..bad choice by SpanishflyandJoe I absolutely love Stephen King's books and I'm a long time fan.....But.....I thought this movie was horrible. I was very disappointed. My husband and I wanted to leave less than halfway through the film. Wished we chose to see Transformers instead.
