Yes. It looks off-kilter, and I don't mean in the wacky fun way that the show is. The sets look dull, and the costumes so-so.
I hate to pre-judge anything, but now that the commercials are including more of the film, I'm just flummoxed by John Travolta. Not his bizarre get-up, but his voice -- that is just NOT anything close to a Baltimore dialect! Did they actually not hire a dialect coach for the cast? I heard him say, "Tree-see Tyurn-blaid" -- what, is the film set in CLEVELAND?
I'll still be there the first day, though -- I just loved the stage show, and I'm looking forward to Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle.
