Caine was 'tired' of dashing spies with fanciful names and came up with a plain looking man who wore glasses and had a 'plebian name,' Harry Palmer.' I've always wanted to ask J K about that....

I would have thought that Len Deighton, who wrote the novel on which The Ipcress File was based might have had something to do with inventing the name Harry Palmer.
I am just sorry they didn't film the second novel, 'Harry Palmer and the Order of the Phoenix'
