I just watched The Ring. Twice. and i didnt really; understand it. well at least the ending. and some parts in between. like why did their noses bleed??
what was up with the fly?
was Samara alive? or dead?...and when did she die?
who and how was Samara hurting? before she died.
And will i have to see the second one to understand the ending??

Samara is dead. She was pushed into the well by her father. Then she becomes a vengeful ghost. He was afraid of her because she believed that her powers were responsible for the failure of their farm and the death of his wife.
The fly being real and not just an image from the video was the represent that the video is supernatural in creation and beyond normal logic. It also foreshadows what happens after seven days.
The reason why the boyfriend died at the end was because the curse is a kind of virus, it must be passed on to another person (by them watching the tape) in order for the previous viewer to survive. This is why Naomi Watts makes a copy for her son and leaves it at a video store.
