What did you think of Kubrick's _Eyes Wide Shut_?!

Question:

What did you think of Kubrick's _Eyes Wide Shut_?

I just finished watching it. You can tell it's a Kubrick film from the excessive numbers of unblemished beautiful naked women.

Anyway, I don't get the ending. Do you think his wife, Alice, was actually in the cult? Like she was in it and thought it was a "dream"? She must have been in it because no one else could have gotten the mask out of the locked cabinet, but at the end, she seemed a lot more pissed off at him than he was at her. If she was in that cult having orgies every once in a while, you'd think Tom Cruise's character would be like, "wtf."

I liked it. His movies exude such brilliant irony. What'd you think?

Answers:

I loved that movie.......Its been alleged by many people over the years that some of the worlds richest families actually party like that, probably just coz they can???
Hell if I was so rich I would too!!!......
The black robes can be found in places like Bohemian grove and other places around the globe, including charges that certain elite families are satanists??? apparently the worlds richest families try to marry amongst themselves, so orgies and all that kind of carry on apparently happen in real life. The object of course being to keep all that wealth within certain bloodlines........
I think Kubrick must have had some exposure to their little rituals and decided to blow the whislte or at least leave us a few clues about their capers. The mask appearing on Nicoles pillow was obviously a hint that they were onto him and could reach him anywhere.......also....
remember the old guy that got out of the car and walked towards Tom while he was outside the gates of the mansion? note the straight back and military manner? that was a nice little detail added by Kubrick, as we know that groups like the masons are made up of ex military men, ex or current barristers, judges and other rich folks from society.
The scenes that made no sense to me were the ones with Lee Lee Sobieski? I think Kubrick was just high lighting her obvious charms and nudity just to give her a bit more exposure. (and us some more eye candy) Im not complaining though she's a beautiful young woman but the subplot with the interplay between her father and the Japanese guys seemed to go nowhere, and left me thinking "what the hell was that all about"?
However I totally dug the rest of the movie, and can see why it didnt do too well at the box office. People dont want to know about stuff thats outside their comfort zone, they dont want to know about stuff they have no frame of reference for. Some folks out there think Kubrick was rubbed out for exposing some of the fun and games of the ruling elite but hey.......if he was, we'd never know about it, the rich and elite dont get there by being sloppy and leaving clues all over the place. I rate the movie 7 out of 10 I love these kinds of movies, especially when a director or writer blurs the lines between fact and fiction. I'd hazard a guess that the movie went right over the top of peoples heads (mebbe 90%) so they will obviously have no other words except ....boring?? or I was bored?..... but thats ok, for those who are in the know its wasnt boring at all.
