I think these elements are part of the Family movie formula:
- A parent makes a promise with their child but normally due to a work commitment the plans are broken.
- Conflict arises so the child rebels against their parents by getting into slapstick comedy mischief.
- Parents try to win over the child's trust and rebuild the family relationship but more issues intervene and somehow child gets blamed for everything.
- Child which is portrayed to have self esteem issues and lack of friends, saves the day accompanied by a loyal pet.
- Child learns that no matter what, the parent will always love them (or a similar moral).
