Wow, there's a lot to say! I don't know exactly where to start, but I'll just write in a stream-of-consciousness sort of way. Maybe that'll be the best tactic of getting my opinion out here!!!

Well, first of all, for the first hour or so of the movie everything seemed very grim. I think the effect was needed to show the gravity of Lord Voldermort coming again, but it may have been overdone. There were a few moments that I was wanting just a smile from some of the characters, rather than ominous dreams or stormy weather. The first time I felt relief was shortly after Harry kissed Cho, when he, Hermione, and Ron were sitting in the Gryffindor common room and Hermione makes a comment that Ron has the mental capacity of a "teaspoon." Although the kiss was done very well, even that was a little awkward and grim because the scene had an overcast of Cedric's death, and thus Harry's guilt and Cho's remorse (so too Harry's remorse and Cho's guilt!).

You can't really blame the movie for editing out many parts of a nearly thousand-page novel, but some things were missed. Of course, there was no Quidditch, and that is usually a common tie between all of the novels. It sets a time or reference frame for the reader/viewer, and also gives some exciting relief from the iminent doom of Lord Voldermort. If the characters are feeling happy or excited, the viewers will most likely too. So, of course, some of this left me wanting in the movie theater, but, again, we couldn't have been sitting in the movie theater for over three hours; however, there might be some quidditch missing from the following movies because a large part of the storyline in the novels hasn't been shown in the movie. I guess we'll just have to wait to find out what they come up with for the next two movies!

Gah, I just realized that I wrote so much and only spoke about one topic! I could be writing here all day, haha.

One thing that I was satisfied with was Professor Umbridge's portrayal. The actress did a wonderful job of making the viewer dislike her, even as much as the novel did! On the other hand, this dislike was in general. The "hate" for Umbridge was not very present in Harry's character. The novel spent much time developing the relationship between Professor Umbridge and Harry, yet we only really see Harry retaliate overtly a couple of times. Also, there were not many detentions, which were capitilized in the novel.

The "dreams" that Harry had were also less telling. I can remember quite vividly that there was a big struggle for Harry in figuring out which door was the correct door, however this came quite simply to Harry in the movie. Although this is not important, it was something cut out nearly entirely.

Luna's character was outstanding, I believe. The way the actress portrayed her eerie mood was wonderful.

It was sad not to see Dumbledore more often, but the reason for that was explained in the novel and movie alike.

There are so many more things to say, but I feel like I'm writing an essay for my English teacher now, haha. If you want to talk about it more, you can instant message me at PEMAK on AIM. I'm online all the time, and would be glad to discuss this more in depth!

Hope to talk to you soon!
